Last fall, as part of its pink seed campaign, Wilbur-Ellis Chester joined forces with the Chester Area High School Lady Flyers at “Think Pink” night at a Flyers volleyball match. Wilbur-Ellis Chester started its pink seed campaign, called “Start Strong, Stay Strong,” in 2015 by donating proceeds of its pink-dyed soybeans treated and sold to customers in Chester, South Dakota, to benefit breast cancer awareness. The branch initially planned to donate $.10 per treated units of soybeans sold for the season to breast cancer awareness, but its suppliers joined in the program to match its donations and made it a total of $.30 per unit of treated seed.
In the past three years, Wilbur-Ellis Chester has donated a total of $28,500 toward breast cancer awareness. Listed below are the distribution of donations for the past 3 seasons:
- 2015—YEAR 1: Donated $10,000, split between Avera Cancer and Stanford Cancer Institutions in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
- 2016—Year 2: Donated $8,500, split between Susan G. Komen, Team of Angels in Moody County and a T-shirt project with Chester Lady Flyers Volleyball.
- 2017—Year 3: Donated $10,000, funds were distributed among Susan G. Komen, Moody County Team of Angels and local volleyball teams for T-shirts to support breast cancer awareness.
Wilbur-Ellis Chester is appreciative of its customers and suppliers for helping make the program a total success.
