John P. Thacher
Wilbur-Ellis Executive Chairman of the BoardAs executive chairman of the board, John P. Thacher is responsible for the leadership and management of Wilbur-Ellis’ board of directors. Additionally, he is actively engaged in supporting the management of the Company, as well as serving as a liaison between the board and Wilbur-Ellis’ senior management.
Thacher first joined Wilbur-Ellis in 1996 as a member of the board of directors. In 1999, he was appointed to the Company’s executive committee while president of Napa, California-based Cuvaison Winery, where he worked for 25 years. Two years later, Thacher left Cuvaison to become part of the Wilbur-Ellis leadership team as vice president of strategic planning and business development. He became president and CEO in April 2006, positions he held until 2018 when he transitioned to executive chairman of Wilbur-Ellis’ board.
In addition to Wilbur-Ellis, Thacher currently serves on the boards of Cuvaison Winery and Argentina-based winery Finca Decero. Previously, he served on the boards of Rabobank North America, Napa Valley Vintners, a wine organization representing Napa Valley wineries; Hintzsche Company, an Illinois-based company specializing in agricultural products; and Di Rosa Foundation, a Northern California-based art organization focusing on contemporary art.
Thacher graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He currently lives in both San Francisco and St. Helena, California, with his wife, Carry. They have two daughters, Lauren and Carolyn.
