In May of 2024, Wilbur-Ellis made a $4,500 donation to support the Petersburg Fire Hall Improvement Project.
In the heart of the Upper Midwest, Wilbur-Ellis works with many independent ag retailers, part of our Alliance Network, who distribute our products to local growers. One special Alliance member is Kevin Sundre, owner of S&S Agri-Service, located in Petersburg, ND.
Kevin’s journey with Wilbur-Ellis began nearly 25 years ago. As an Alliance member, he has built a strong, mutually supportive relationship with the company and his account manager, Jack Schmitz.
“It’s always a two-way street,” Kevin says. “Jack and Wilbur-Ellis have always had our back, no matter what. When something goes wrong, they’re there to help us fight through it. It’s not just my problem; it’s our problem.”
Kevin’s dedication extends beyond his business. For 41 years, he has been a vital part of the Petersburg Fire Protection District, a volunteer fire department supported by 15-20 dedicated area volunteers. The department serves as a beacon of safety and hope, providing essential emergency services to the town and its surrounding areas.
One notable run the team responded to in spring 2024 was a rollover that involved a semi-truck loaded with ag chemicals. The team successfully extricated the driver and ensured his swift transport to the hospital. On another occasion, the team ensured the safety of 27 students on board an overturned school bus. No matter the situation, the volunteers showcase hard work and determination to keep the community safe.
Despite their dedication, the fire department faces ongoing challenges, particularly the need for updated equipment, storage, and training. Recognizing this, Kevin wanted to make an impact in his community and the fire protection district. Together, Kevin and Jack applied for Impact Funds from Wilbur-Ellis to support the Petersburg Fire Hall Improvement Project, which will include the construction of a 50’ x 60’ heated flat storage building.
Wilbur-Ellis donated $4,500 to help kickstart the project. Through the support of the Wilbur-Ellis team and the tireless efforts of all the volunteers, the project exemplifies the positive impact of community and partnership. We’re better together, that’s The Power of We®.
